Flipping Your Classroom: What to Do with All That Time? Hi-Tech and No-Tech Approaches

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 | 9:30AM–10:20AM | Room 550
Session Type: Professional Development
"Flipping the classroom" moves passive, background instruction outside the classroom, leaving in-class time for student-centered activities that foster greater comprehensive and collaborative learning. Instructors sometimes struggle with the logistics of flipping their courses and how to best use class time. In this session, we will explore two web-based formats for delivering course content to students outside class. We will discuss ideas for assessment of outside-class student learning and accountability for class preparation. Finally, we will discuss web-based resources for enhancing student-centered learning in class, while also fostering student creativity and genuine student interest in the course subject matter.

OBJECTIVES: Be able to develop out-of-class activities that will engage students and deliver background information specific to the course being taught * Be able to devise strategies to ensure student participation in, and accountability for, outside-of-class activities * Be able to develop in-class activities that will fortify course concepts and allow students to achieve the highest levels of Bloom's taxonomy
