Gateway to Success: Partnerships with Faculty in a First-Year Gateway Curriculum

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 | 3:50PM–4:40PM | Room 552B
Session Type: Professional Development
Reference librarians at Bryant University's Krupp Library form close partnerships with faculty to enhance information literacy instruction in Bryant's first-year gateway curriculum. Each librarian partners with instructors for Writing 106, a core gateway class. To maximize the effectiveness of our time in these classes, we developed an innovative virtual library tour. This format enables us to "flip the tour" and introduce students to library resources in their own time and at their own pace. As a result, classroom time is spent on interactive, workshop-style instruction that engages first-year students. Faculty feedback on this collaboration has been overwhelmingly positive.

OBJECTIVES: Learn about innovative approaches to first-year information literacy instruction * Develop strategies for successfully collaborating and building relationships with faculty * Learn how to solicit constructive feedback from faculty in order to assess and evaluate partnerships
