Social media is everywhere and is now a staple of admissions departments. Student services are embracing social media. Undergraduates are spending an increasing amount of time connected to each other via Twitter, Facebook, and the like. Unfortunately, with every new opportunity comes risk. Ask yourself, is your school increasing liability for the sake of engagement? What should go in our social media policy? Do we have a social media policy? This session will help institutions answer these questions and navigate the legal dangers of social technology.


OBJECTIVES: Gain a better understanding of the risks in social media unique to higher education * Be able to identify current practices that expose your organization to legal liability * Be able to design a social media policy that minimizes risk
