Strategies for Developing a High-Quality Orientation for Online Learners

Orientations are an essential part of preparing any student to be successful in a new academic program. A thorough orientation designed to meet the unique needs of online students is critical to ensuring the success of new online learners. This session will provide information gathered through a recent study on online student orientations, including students' perceptions of orientation components and delivery method, and will offer suggestions for implementing or improving an online student orientation.


OBJECTIVES: Understand the importance of a well-designed orientation in preparing students to be successful online learners * Evaluate the value of various components of a student orientation on students' feelings of preparedness for online learning * Discover students' attitudes toward online orientation courses and how they are delivered * Brainstorm ideas for improving orientation initiatives for online learners at your institution
