Library Collections Support for Digital Humanities

Wednesday, March 23 | 12:00PM–12:50PM | Room 553
Session Type: Professional Development
Library collections offer a wealth of raw materials for digital humanists, but the library's role in supporting digital humanities (DH) is not limited to offering tangible collections for digitization. This session will describe and provide examples of the Yale Library's efforts to make licensed electronic resources available for DH methodologies. From a library collection development standpoint, key aspects of this work include engaging publishers and vendors to facilitate access to the raw data behind their e-resources, exercising text and data mining (TDM) clauses in e-resource licenses, and articulating the place of e-resources "raw data" within the overall library collections landscape.

Outcomes: Learn how licenses for electronic resources govern uses such as text and data mining * Learn about specific ways to work with the library to approach publishers and vendors for access to "raw data"
