Hot Topic Discussion: Mobility, Telecommuting, and the Cloud

Tuesday, April 13 | 5:00PM–6:30PM | International D (6th floor)
Session Type: Professional Development
ECAR's sixth Study of Undergraduate Students and IT reported that 29 percent of survey respondents use an Internet-capable handheld device daily, and faculty and staff also love them. Given this level of adoption, institutions need to understand the risks associated with handheld mobile devices, limits to what can be done to secure them, and new support structures that may be needed. Like mobile devices, personal and institutional use of cloud services is on the rise. The appeal is not surprising, as these services offer attractive pricing, ease of use, and global access. However, institutions must consider the security concerns and technical limitations to assess the true cost of these services.
