Seminar 01A - Our Shared Risk, Our Shared Responsibility: Learning to Prevent Confidential Data Loss

The information security team at Texas State University has embarked on a strategic initiative to prevent confidential data leakage through a combination of endpoint protection, data loss prevention (DLP), e-mail encryption, and awareness. Similarly, Cornell has launched its own strategic initiative to search for, and secure confidential data across, all university-owned computers. This seminar will explain how we secured executive mandate and support, funding, and technology for these efforts. Further, we will discuss the goals and challenges of each university's approach, success criteria, and initiative status as of April 2011.
