U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid Address

Officials from the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid will participate in the conference to describe our shared responsibility for cybersecurity. It is imperative for institutions of higher education to protect personally identifiable information (PII) and to solicit input on how the government can help campuses ensure the security of the assets that are part of the Federal Student Aid program. The discussion will focus around the formation of an advisory board comprised of individuals representing the postsecondary higher education community and members of the Department of Education. The session is also aimed at soliciting ideas that will help frame the strategic goals and objectives of the advisory board. In an effort to assist the postsecondary higher education community, this session is aimed at addressing the end-of-year initiatives.

About Richard Gordon:

Richard Gordon is the Chief Information Officer of Federal Student Aid, U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.

Richard has over 25 years of information technology experience and is considered a thought-leader in the information management field. He has served in senior executive roles in government, most recently as the Deputy CIO for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Richard also served as the Interim Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the critical first year of Treasury's Office of Financial Stability (TARP) supporting the government's economic recovery programs. While at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, he served as the Deputy CIO and CTO. Prior to this extensive government service, Richard worked in senior leadership roles with BearingPoint and Standard Technology.

During Richard's tenure in the US Army, he served as the CTO of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command, the CIO of the Walter Reed Army Health Care System and the Deputy CIO of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research after being deployed to support the United Nations Mission in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Richard has a BS degree in Information Systems from Park University, and a MS degree in Information Systems from American University.
