Security Without Borders: Leveraging Community Infrastructure for Cross-Institutional Threat Mitigation

Wednesday, April 20 | 9:00AM–10:00AM | Cascade Ballroom II, Mezzanine Level, Second Floor
Session Type: Professional Development
The Security Without Borders Pilot aimed to utilize vertical and horizontal data sharing to satisfy the time-based model of security. Trial participants from four universities established vertical intelligence gathering to facilitate real-time threat intelligence by allowing FireEye's malware detection platform to inject events and/or threat intelligence into their OpenDNS Umbrella service environment, automatically converting events into enforcement. In addition, authorizing the FireEye appliance to inject events and/or threat intelligence into other partnering institutions' OpenDNS Umbrella service environment extends the value of the security intelligence horizontally, beyond an institution's network perimeter.

OUTCOMES: Understand the utility of big data analytics tools for information security * Learn innovative ways to use these security solutions in an education and research setting
