There is a surprising amount of misinformation in the higher education ecosphere regarding how people learn; however, we are also experiencing something of a renaissance regarding what we know about effective teaching and human learning. This session will explore the most popular conceptions and misconceptions about learning and cognition, and those who view this session will discover important truths about how students learn that are based on the findings of recent educational research. These truths provide concrete guidance for classroom practice as well as university wide initiatives and student support services, and many of these will be explored.
