EDUCAUSE Live! Webinar
Big Data: What's the Big Deal?

Why is big data such a big deal when it comes to data privacy? As John Wooden once said, "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?" In the land rush to reap the benefits from Big Data projects, organizations are frequently forgetting the importance of protecting these "Crown Jewels"- how we utilize personal data from requirements to retirement. From a privacy perspective and security, Big Data is different from other traditional data and requires a different approach. At the same time, it shares many commonalities. Existing methodologies and preferred practices can easily be extended to support Big Data. This talk will describe how and why Big Data is different, the challenges of Big Data, along with a set of best practices and recommended controls that will help you to secure and protect your organization's Crown Jewels.

Note: January 28 is Data Privacy Day. Throughout the months of January and February, the EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity Initiative will highlight higher education privacy issues through this webinar, new guest blogs, and other activities. Learn more.
