Session Type: E112
Developing professional development plans culminates in personalized development plans for each employee. These invaluable tools do more than identify training needs: they facilitate communication between the employee and the manager and create a basis for performance evaluations while delivering plans for improvement. This seminar will explain the differences between training and education plans, and development and succession plans. The concept of "positional training" as opposed to "personal development" will be addressed. We'll present the basics for creating a development plan, as well as how and when to measure skills. This seminar will stress the benefits of developing employees in a holistic manner. We'll explain how best to use the plans and describe how, as living documents, they provide a continuous tool for coaching, mentoring, and counseling. Specifics will include developing master task lists using existing documentation and worker input, performing task breakdowns, prioritizing tasks, defining training requirements, determining best delivery methods, and developing positional and/or personal development plans.
