Cross-Departmental Digital Wellness: Supporting Student Success
How many hours do we spend on our electronic devices, scrolling, emailing, texting, and staring at a screen? To what extent do we have the upper hand in our relationship with digital devices? During and after the pandemic, technology has moved towards center stage in higher education just as student well-being has become a crucial focus of student success. Digital Wellness, “the optimum state of health and well-being that each individual using technology is capable of achieving” (as defined by the Digital Wellness Institute), is increasingly important for a healthy student experience. Our session dives into this topic, enabling participants to gauge their own levels of digital wellness, including how they can improve it. We will discuss why universities need to care about digital wellness–for students and for all of us. The presentation includes information on our campus campaign, such as student perspectives, stakeholder interest, and national data. What campus offices and departments might engage in this type of work on your campus? Participants will begin to outline a plan to kick off a campus digital wellness campaign by bringing together key players in a coalition.
