Getting the technology, content, game mechanics, and art right in a virtual reality experience are important considerations; often overlooked, however, is how powerful storytelling and intentionally connecting with learners’ emotions shape the most effective immersive VR learning. Together, we’ll explore how strategic empathetic design principles using affect and storytelling changed everything about the way we develop educational VR and resulted in learners being able to make better decisions in stressful situations, demonstrate elevated skills application, improve critical thinking and report enhanced knowledge retention.
