How can we foster an environment of empathy, inclusion, and consideration for all learners in the disconnected world of online education? By incorporating principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and considering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), we can design our courses to proactively create a learning environment that reflects student experiences, identities, goals, and strengths for a relevant and truly connected educational experience. In this session, we will explore how to establish and maintain learning environments that support student engagement, design course activities based on student experiences and insights, and remove barriers by inviting students into the decision-making process for their own learning.
