From Compute to Culture: Building an AI University at UF with HiPerGator

On Demand
Session Type: Featured Session
Delivery Format: On-Demand Presentation

This session was previously recorded in Nashville.

In 2020, the University of Florida launched a bold initiative to become a leading “AI University,” anticipating the transformative impact of artificial intelligence years before its mainstream emergence. Central to this vision is a strategic collaboration with the university’s IT organization, enabling a campus-wide integration of AI technologies across disciplines.

This session explores how UF combined the computational power of HiPerGator, the fastest supercomputer in academia, with NaviGator AI, a multimodal generative AI platform, to accelerate AI adoption. The initiative positions AI as a versatile toolset for students, faculty, and staff, and a foundational knowledge asset for researchers and alums. Attendees will gain insight into UF’s scalable infrastructure, cross-functional partnerships, and the cultural shift required to embed AI into the fabric of higher education.

Session presenter Elias Eldayrie is the recipient of the 2025 EDUCAUSE Leadership Award.

Award sponsored by Moran Technology Consulting, Mission Partner.
