Learning Spaces in (Re)defined Learning Territories: Developing a Vision for a Future-Proof Campus

Thursday, November 13, 2025 | 1:00PM–1:45PM ET
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Teaching and Learning practices experienced significant changes due to the COVID pandemic and its emergency remote teaching measures that required medium- and long-term adjustments. Additionally, a social trend is questioning the very nature of a campus: its perimeter, not only through the usual face-to-face/remote balance, but also through the synchronous/asynchronous and on/off-campus scenarios. These systemic evolutions challenge higher education stakeholders to consider redesigning their learning spaces, facilities, buildings, and campuses on a broader scale, ensuring a consistent and holistic approach to what can be considered learning territories. This session will first provide an overview of global trends in (re)defining these learning territories, especially for a higher education environment transitioning to generalized hybrid and HyFlex models. The use case of Thomas More University of Applied Sciences will then be presented as an example of practical approaches to developing a future-oriented campus action plan.
