Designing AI-Guided Simulations for Experiential Learning in Higher Education

Generative AI tools are increasingly used in higher education, but many implementations focus on content generation rather than interactive learning experiences. This poster describes the instructional design process used to develop AI-guided simulations for experiential learning in a graduate course. Using a generative AI platform, interactive scenario-based simulations were created in which students interact with AI-generated scenarios, gather information, make decisions, and explain their reasoning. The poster will describe the simulation design process, prompt design strategies, activity structure, student workflow, and lessons learned from implementing AI-guided simulations in a course. Recommendations will be provided for faculty and instructional designers interested in developing similar AI-based learning activities.
