Privacy, Security, and Identity Management for Research Environments

Tuesday, February 03, 2009 | 10:30AM–11:30AM | Palm A/D
Session Type: Professional Development
As institutions of higher education move to safeguard IT assets and protect the community's privacy, they must not overlook the need to secure research data and ensure its integrity. Institutions have leveraged the institutional review board as a checks and balances for privacy and security; established federally compliant research data centers; deployed policies and technologies to address the risks inherent in data that resides on mobile devices; and leveraged identity management systems to accommodate visiting scientists, enable collaborations across institutions, and provide federated access to government agency resources. This session will describe identity management services that are part of e-government and will explore emerging information security and privacy challenges and solutions for research environments.
