The Open Library Environment (OLE) Project plans to begin development in January 2010 with continued support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The OLE Project will build an open-source platform for scholarly support and knowledge management using state-of-the-art design and software engineering principles and practices. In approximately 30 months' time, OLE will allow libraries to discontinue their current integrated-library systems and several ancillary systems necessary to manage scholarly information and continue their business functions through OLE or through the enterprise integration of OLE with identity management, ERP systems, learning management systems, and other campus and cloud technologies.
