In response to the data breach of over 38,000 Social Security numbers in January 2008, Georgetown University Information Services initiated a university-wide data inventory and campaign to address the multitude of data privacy and data security issues associated with university uses of personally identifiable information (PII). This presentation will describe the policies, practices, and procedures implemented throughout the university to identify and control the use, collection, storage, and transfer of PII.
