The Art of Negotiation

Thursday, June 02, 2011 | 12:45PM–1:30PM | Grand Ballroom Salons G & H
Session Type: Professional Development
You are unique, just like everybody else, which makes negotiation with campus community members and commercial partners a fascinating experience. No matter how great our technical expertise, or how deep our institutional knowledge, we still need professional skills to effectively work with people and organizations. One of these critical skills is the ability to negotiate with others to achieve win-win outcomes when facing differences of opinion and other forms of conflict, large or small. The art of negotiation helps us find common ground and solutions that all sides can support. Skilled negotiators prepare in advance, use their best listening skills, and keep an eye on the goal to prevent polarized discussions that lead to defensive postures, disappointment, and anger. Bring your real-life experiences to this important session where we'll delve into negotiation skills and techniques.
