Using Slate Tablets to Promote Active Learning

The "Experience IT" format offers a hands-on, highly interactive introduction to newer tools and technologies so you can explore their potential impact in the workplace and classroom and on your professional development. Please bring your laptop or other session-specific technology (such as smartphone or tablet) to the session so you can engage with the presenter. Seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The versatility and ease of use of Slate Tablet devices has garnered both acceptance and excitement within the educational community. The affordances of this family of devices has enabled educators to transform the classroom pedagogy from teacher-centered to student-centered by designing activities that encourage active and deep learning. During this session an overview of the Seton Hall University Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet (Android) pilot project will be presented. Best practices, from both student and faculty perspectives, regarding tablet usability and curriculum integration will be discussed.
