Overview

What is ethical hacking? Whenever it is mentioned, the term "hacking" comes with a certain stigma. IT leaders need to understand that ethical hacking (sometimes referred to as "penetration testing") is key to any organization's overall cybersecurity strategy. Ethical hacking validates that an organization's cybersecurity strategy is effective. This session will introduce participants to the process an ethical hacker follows when testing a target. We will cover the different tools, techniques, and methodologies a tester and threat actor will employ during a test or breach attempt.

Learning Outcomes:

NOTE: You will be asked to complete assignments in between the course segments that support the learning objectives stated below. You will receive feedback and constructive critique from course facilitators during the breakout portions of the course segments.

  • Learn the difference between a vulnerability assessment and a penetration test
  • Learn about the different tools and techniques that hackers—including ethical hackers—employ
  • Discover the elements of a four-phase penetration test and how the four phases help a successful test
