Analytics has the power to help higher education tackle some of its biggest challenges, and colleges and universities have access to enormous stores of data. Institutions often struggle with how to best use data to derive the information they need for strategic decision-making and meaningful change. A solid data governance foundation is an essential part of this process, ensuring that data conforms to standards, is of high quality, and is available when needed. Comprehensive data governance also helps foster transparency, collaboration, and communication across the institution. This lab will help introduce data governance and some methods for starting or enhancing your institution’s data governance structure to be able to more effectively utilize your data in ways that align with your community

Learning Outcomes:

NOTE: You will be asked to complete assignments in between the course segments that support the learning objectives stated below. You will receive feedback and constructive critique from course facilitators during the breakout portions of the course segments.

  • Understand the role of data governance in supporting strategic initiatives
  • Understand how to exert influence across the institution to build relationships and understanding as a foundation for data governance
  • Develop strategies to build a data governance roadmap that can be applied locally
