The Learning Lab experience is supported by both asynchronous and synchronous components. Each Learning Lab sequence includes a set of resources, an asynchronous discussion, and an interactive live session, all of which culminate in the development of a project or application to apply learning to local and specific contexts in support of the learning objectives.
November 1, 2021, 3:00–4:00 p.m. ET
This is a live session to learn the details of the Learning Lab, the Canvas site, and expectations for the microcredential. There will also be time to get to know your fellow lab partners and facilitator.
Learning Sequence 1: Building an Accessibility Plan
November 3, 2021, 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET
Learn the basics of a campus-wide digital accessibility plan, the common challenges, and the key components of an effective plan (e.g., framework/template, goals, people, planning, training, policy, auditing, resources, reevaluation, complaint handling, and corrective actions). Participants will use a case study and real-world example to illustrate and discuss how to develop and apply a successful digital accessibility framework and how to move it forward into the adoption of a plan.
Learning Sequence 2: Creating a Digital Accessibility Toolkit
November 10, 2021, 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET
Participants will learn how to create a planning checklist that includes the elements identified in Sequence 1 to be included in their digital accessibility toolkit and/or plan (framework). Participants will learn how to identify, qualify, and score applicable criteria to include in their digital accessibility plan for their course or program.
November 17, 2021, 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET
The Learning Lab will conclude with an application or implementation project (described below) and a closing live session to review and process the learning from the lab.
Lab Implementation Project
The final project is the development of a digital accessibility plan (framework) and toolkit criteria that includes a plan, people, practices, and policies (4P Model). The final project includes drafting an implementation strategy based on the planning checklist for your institution, department, program, or online course.
