Learning Experience
The Learning Lab experience is supported by both asynchronous and synchronous components. Each of the two Learning Cycles includes a set of resources, an asynchronous discussion, and an interactive live session, all of which culminate in the development of a project or application to apply learning to local and specific contexts in support of the learning objectives.
Schedule
Welcome Session
May 1, 2023, 12:00–1:00 p.m. ET
This is a live session to learn the details of the Learning Lab, the Canvas site, and expectations for the microcredential. There will also be time to get to know your fellow Lab partners and facilitator.
Learning Cycle 1: Exploring Multimodal HyFlex Learning Spaces
May 3, 2023, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET
Multimodal learning spaces present an opportunity to deliver a high-quality education to learners across multiple learning modalities. These learning spaces enhance student learning with newly remodeled classrooms and upgraded academic technologies that support hybrid learning through video conferencing and collaboration to invest in, reinvent, and reinvigorate physical spaces and instructional technology. In this learning cycle, we will review the process of collaborating with stakeholders through surveys, and consultations to identify instructors’ needs in learning spaces, evaluating the results to develop a plan for creating personas that meet those needs. We’ll also review the overall learning impact and capabilities of each learning space (Core, Connected, Active-Connected, and Zoom Unified).
Learning Cycle 2: The Impact of Multimodal HyFlex Learning Spaces: Technology & Pedagogy
May 10, 2023, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET
Multimodal learning spaces reinforce a focus on access and flexibility. The universal design and technology built into each learning space persona offers its users a consistent, easy-to-use experience and dedicated assistance to incorporate innovative teaching practices into its teaching and learning environment. When designing these learning spaces, it is important to align what we know from research and theory about how students learn and to lean on effective pedagogical approaches to create deeper student learning experiences. In this learning cycle, building on the personas, we will discuss the types of experiences that can be implemented in these spaces and the program designed to assist faculty with training and pedagogy in each. We’ll also share faculty resources and support designed to encourage teaching and learning in the flexible spaces.
Review & Reflect Session
May 17, 2023, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET
The Learning Lab will conclude with an application or implementation project (described below) and a closing live session to review and process the learning from the lab.
Final Application Project
Throughout the lab, we’ll develop a plan to design and launch a multimodal HyFlex learning space. This plan will include several components beginning with identifying stakeholders and their needs for a flexible space through assessment and evaluations. Then we'll move through the next steps of the process, including: developing at least one persona for HyFlex modalities with technological capabilities based on stakeholders' needs, digital tools that support various pedagogical methods and capitalize on the space’s design, and a practical guide of various teaching and learning strategies and resources to support stakeholders who will utilize the learning space.
