Q: What is an on-demand session?

A: 

On-demand sessions are pre-recorded presentations that are then hosted in the virtual, on-demand session gallery of the event platform. With on-demand content, attendees can watch sessions online at their pace and leisure.

Q: How long should my on-demand session be?

A: 

Your recording should be approximately 20 minutes long.

Q: What are the due dates for my presentation?

A: 

There are several key dates for your presentation and any supplemental resources you would like to provide:

  • NOW: Start creating your presentation and meeting with your presentation team (if applicable). You may download the event PowerPoint here. (It's encouraged but not required to use.)

  • March 22 (All presenters): Update Your Presenter Profile. Please log into EDUCAUSE's membership system by this date to make sure your profile is up to date (bio, photo, title, company, etc.) as this is what will be displayed in the online agenda on your session page.

  • March 22: Presenter Registration Deadline. We ask that all presenters be registered by this date.

  • April 4: One month out. Almost there… Finalize your presentation, refine presentation skills and engagement tactics. Be sure to watch the Presenter Support Modules for best practices to help you create and deliver an outstanding presentation.

  • April 15: On-Demand Recording Due. You will record your 20-presentation and the lead presenter will submit it by this date in order to meet production timelines. (Requested format: MP4 file.)

  • April 25: Presentation Materials Uploaded. The lead presenter will submit materials (copy of PowerPoint, supplemental materials/resources, etc.) to EDUCAUSE. Instructions will be forthcoming on how to upload these.

  • May 11–12: Cybersecurity & Privacy Professionals Conference Online 2022.

Q: What are some general recommendations for online presenters?

A: 

By implementing the following guidelines, your session will be engaging, interesting, and memorable:

  1. Know your audience: Who are they? Why do you think they are attending your session?
  2. Start with the end in mind. There should be 1 3 key "takeaways" from the session.
  3. Have an engagement plan. It's very easy to lose your audience's attention in a virtual setting. Ideas: Use the chat box early and often by asking questions of your audience and engaging them with pre-planned prompts. Chunk your content into sections of 5–7 minutes each, and after each section, engage with the audience.
  4. Prepare: Know your stuff. Practice. Time yourself. Critique yourself. Practice some more.
  5. Remember to test your equipment.
  6. When presenting/recording, remove distractions and look eye-level at the camera.
  7. Know that your preparation will pay off for a fantastic presentation!

Q: How do I record my presentation?

A: 

You may record using a screen-share program such as Zoom or GoToWebinar. You will then upload your mp4 file (size limit is 2GB) using the instructions provided by your speaker liaison (coming soon).

Q: How do I upload my presentation and resources (if applicable)?

A: 

Lead presenters will receive an email from the EDUCAUSE event team with a special link to upload the presentation content and any resources in the speaker portal. (File format: PDF)

Q: Do you have a preferred naming convention for files, and should I include a copyright statement?

A: 

Yes please. All presenters should share their presentation materials prior to the event. Please rename files to be uploaded with the session title and the resource type (examples: "NameofSession_Slides.pdf" and/or "NameofSession_ Handout.pdf"). If you password-protect a PDF document, please make sure to enable the file to be read by a screen reader. It is our goal to make our resources easily available to those who use adaptive and assistive technology to access files over the internet.
