Is This a Joke? Using Humor to Connect IT and Departments

Thursday, March 03 | 12:15PM–1:15PM | Colorado Ballroom GH, Lower Level 2
Session Type: Professional Development
Educating our students is important and serious business. This does not, however, confine us to a dreary work environment. Laughter, and even smiling, have known health benefits. Strategically placed humor builds goodwill and fosters cooperation and the acceptance of new ideas. At ASU, we took a monthly e-mail update about software and added humor to the message, which had powerful, positive effects on our intradepartmental relationships. You look kind of funny—why don't you come and share your favorite joke? Don't have a favorite joke? Well then, stop on by and borrow one! Come to this session and share a few laughs and investigate how humor might help you communicate more effectively at your institution.

If you have a laptop or tablet, please bring it to this session.

OUTCOMES: Share your favorite joke (even if you find it at the session) * Share ways that you have used humor in the past and the lessons you've learned * Identify communications that may be improved by humor at your institution
