SLOAP: Student Learning Outcomes Analysis Platform—Toward Experiential Curriculum Management

Monday, March 13, 2017 | 11:15AM–12:15PM | Oregon Ballroom CD, Ballroom Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Academic institutions accumulate digital data describing students’ performance and other characteristics over the course of study. The ubiquity of different technologies in the classroom has increased the volume and variety of this student data, resulting in the need for the traditional uses of such data to be reassessed. A successful solution for integrating learning outcomes data to achieve continual improvement includes an infrastructure for storage, analysis and visualization software, overcoming of departmental data-sharing policies, and harmonization of heterogeneous and disparate data sources. We propose a federation with departmental-level access and controls and integration for institutional continual improvement based on outcome data.

OUTCOMES: Describe the use of existing infrastructure to tackle big data problems * Understand the value of a data federation to integrate disparate data * Define open source data analytics tools that reduce cost while preserving scalability
