Being able to communicate effectively is essential to being a successful leader. Accomplished CIOs and CISOs actively hone skills for engaging in dialogue with stakeholders and colleagues, building consensus, negotiating a business case, and presenting their professional persona through social media or a résumé. This session will examine effective communication approaches, including how to choose the right communication tool for each context and communicating appropriately at all levels.
Objectives: Recognize communication styles and understand what works best in different contexts *Consider how to translate and present technical information so that it resonates with nontechnical constituencies including students, faculty, staff, and administration *Explore strategies for handling difficult situations such as delivering bad news and saying you are sorry
