Effective leaders use a variety of strategies for communication. Understanding how to develop and use strategic communications in a number of forms provides tools for effective leadership. In this session, we will review forms of communication and offer specific examples of how to communicate more effectively across multiple audiences. We will explore the power of politics in forming and delivering communications to leadership, peer groups, and end users while exposing the rapid rise of social media as a new communication channel. We will also bring to light the importance of collecting data and working to actively make sense of that data in your campus communication plan.


OBJECTIVES: Learn about the basic principles of communication theory and understand how communication drives innovation * Gain a perspective on strategic communications to the campus executive team and understand the importance of informal communication * Better understand the role that data plays in strategic communications and the importance of exposing understandable data in strategic communications
