Summary
In President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, he stressed the importance of education to his economic agenda. He reemphasized the national goal of leading the world with the highest share of college graduates by 2020. He appealed to the Congress to increase federal student aid and called upon state governments to make higher education a higher priority in their budgets. He also announced six new reforms to promote shared responsibility to address the college affordability challenge. This webinar will provide an overview of the president’s education agenda, review how higher education associations are working with the federal government to shape postsecondary education policy, and address the role that information technology can play in discussions concerning accountability and college affordability.
