Teaching and Learning Design Lenses for the Sakai Open Academic Environment (Pilot Program/Emerging Technology)

Monday, February 14, 2011 | 3:45PM–4:45PM | Lincoln West
Session Type: Professional Development
With the development of the Sakai Open Academic Environment (OAE), the Sakai community intends to create a next-generation collaboration and learning system. In creating a vision for the new Sakai OAE, the Sakai teaching and learning community developed the concept of Teaching and Learning Design Lenses, seven perspectives through which the design and development of the new environment should be considered: Learning and Teaching Management, Social Interaction, Content Creation and Use, Learning Activities, Assessment/Evaluation, Openness, and User Autonomy. In this session, we'll explain the design lenses, seek feedback, and provide a brief update on the progress of the project.

Learning Objectives
* Learn about new development under way in the Sakai community, a group of like minded higher education institutions and partners focused on providing enterprise systems in support of the academic mission.
* Understand the conceptual underpinnings of the new Sakai Open Academic Environment.
* Hear about current progress of the project and the early use of the Sakai OAE at several institutions.
