Faculty Voices in Emerging Technologies: Adoption, Support, and Implementation

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 | 2:30PM–4:30PM | Grand Ballroom Foyer
Session Type: ELI
How can a university support faculty adoption of new technologies? The rapid deployment of new technologies poses a dilemma for faculty: namely, how do I choose new technologies and how will I implement them in my classroom? This session will feature video vignettes of faculty who have implemented a wide range of technologies in their teaching, including blogs, wikis, Twitter, iPads, video projectors , and more. The videos will address both successes and challenges. Participants of the session will discuss the institutional factors (both technological and personnel) that need to be in place for successful adoption of emerging technologies.

Learning Objectives:
*Discuss institutional enablers and barriers to faculty technology adoption
*Differentiate between technology for the sake of technology and technology for the sake of enhancing teaching and learning
*Collaborate on a list of best practices for supporting faculty in technology implementation
