Gamification is the application of game design principles in nongame applications. This method has been shown to enhance audience engagement and improve problem solving. Top Hat Monocle has recently incorporated a "tournament module" to its current web-based SRS that uses students' mobile devices. This tool automatically pairs up students to compete against each other in answering the clicker-type questions posted by the instructor and ranks them according to their performance. Instructors select from their current clicker-type questions and create a tournament that takes place in or out of class as a bonus assignment.
