Course Activity and Digital Badge

Each registered participant will develop one activity that employs various concepts and strategies introduced in the course. Participants will be asked to complete assignments between the course segments that support the learning objectives and will receive feedback and constructive critique from the facilitator on how to improve and shape their work. Those registered participants that successfully complete the entire activity will receive an EDUCAUSE digital badge recognizing their accomplishment.

Schedule and Activities

Session 1: How Big Is Your Credential Universe?

February 14, 2018, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

  • Who should be involved?
  • Why are you seeking to issue digital credentials?
  • Who are your external stakeholders?
  • How big will your pilot be?
  • What does your credential hierarchy and constellation look like?

Session Activity
Participants will begin the planning process through a meta-activity of identifying purpose, value, and stakeholders.


Session 2: Stakeholders, Meaning, and Rigor

February 21, 2018, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

  • What makes a credential valuable?
  • How do you create robust metadata?
  • Why should you think about categories and tags?
  • What should be considered as credential evidence?
  • How will you get the credential to the earner?

Session Activity
Participants will identify stakeholders and develop competencies or standards to embed in credentials for an actual project at their institution. They will create one or more credentials.


Session 3: Final Lift

February 28, 2018, 1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

  • What about graphic design and branding?
  • How do you prepare your earners to accept credentials?
  • What follow-up should you plan to implement?
  • What can you do to further drive credential value?

Session Activity
Participants will create and share an outreach plan for earners. This may include media, brochures, or websites.
