Designing Mobile Learning Experiences for Higher Education

EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative 2012 Online Seminar
September 24, 2012 • 1:00–4:00 p.m. ET (UTC-4) convert to your time zone Runs three hours.

Mobile has been the fastest growing industry, ever. In the developed world, mobile subscriptions are flattening, not due to a lack of interest but from market saturation. The developing world isn't far behind. What this means is that mobile opportunities are here, now. The question is, how do you take advantage of them? In this seminar, we will get specific about what mobile is and is not. And we will do this actively, allowing you to exercise these concepts for your own context. The goal is to get your mind around mobile and figure out how to take advantage of the prevalence of these devices in ways that make sense for your organization. The devices are out there. What are you waiting for?

Learning Objectives

As a result of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Explore the fundamental affordances mobile provides and map those to learning goals
  • Consider content, practice, and social as components of a rich learning experience and where mobile fits into the picture
  • Look at a richer picture of mobile and consider the implications for learning design and curriculum
  • Look at the larger context of academic services, development and support, and strategy and policy
