A Tale of Two Redesigns

John Squires is the chairman of the math department at Chattanooga State Community College, where he is implementing course redesign throughout the department. As the director of the Do the Math Center, he is working with local high schools to help spread course redesign at that level as well. Squires is also the architect of the redesign project at Cleveland State Community College, where he introduced innovative scheduling strategies such as Math on Demand and the One Room Schoolhouse. During this talk, he will share the results of a formal statistical study of the Cleveland State math project. He will also discuss the common features and differences of the redesign projects from Cleveland State and Chattanooga State, while emphasizing the principles of course redesign and how they can be used in future projects.
