David Woodbury is the associate head of the user experience department at NCSU Libraries. He manages public services for the technology-rich learning spaces at NCSU Libraries, including the Learning Commons in the D. H. Hill Library and the James B. Hunt Jr. Library. He helped plan and implement the new public services model for the Hunt Library and leads several technology initiatives, including NCSU's technology-lending program. He served as a core team member for the Learning Space Toolkit, an IMLS-funded resource to assist planners with the full life cycle of an informal learning space design project.

Ian Charnas

Ian Charnas graduated from Case in 2005 with BS degrees in both computer and mechanical engineering. His work blends art and technology in creatively themed exhibits and events, including the world's largest twin musical Tesla coils, a magical mustache mirror, and a waterfall swingset. Charnas and his work have been featured in Wired.com and Wired Magazine, NPR online, Popular Mechanics, IEEE Spectrum, Boing Boing, Make Magazine, Pitchfork, and Hackaday. He aims to inspire creativity at think[box] and the belief that you can do anything.

Join Malcolm Brown and Veronica Diaz as they moderate this webinar with Ian Charnas and David Woodbury. Learn how two institutions provide space for fabrication and collaboration with access to advanced tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters. Case Western Reserve University's think[box] and the North Carolina State University Libraries' Makerspace offer interdisciplinary creation spaces and services. Think[box] offers a large-scale approach with a 4,500-square-foot space that will eventually move to a 50,000-square-foot facility while the NCSU Libraries' Makerspace is a small space located within an academic library. Representatives from both institutions will share details about equipment and examples of student-created projects and discuss the role of creation spaces on campus in support of innovative learning and entrepreneurship.
