Event Housing and Attendee List Advisories

Each year, events like the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference are targeted by housing and registration poachers due to their popularity. To ensure you get the best service and experience throughout each event, please note the following.

Event Housing

EDUCAUSE has specific contracts in place to ensure our attendees and exhibitors receive the best rates on their accommodations, and to guarantee their reservations. However, there are some fraudulent companies that attempt to take advantage of our events by misleading our attendees into booking reservations through their companies (often convincing attendees to make false reservations under the guise of being an "EDUCAUSE-approved service").

As an attendee or exhibitor at one of our events, please know:

  • Maritz Global Events (formerly Experient) is the Official Housing and Registration Provider for the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference. Improper solicitation of hotel reservations from any company other than Maritz Global Events is not approved. Reservations made by unaffiliated organizations may appear to have lower rates, however they may be illegitimate, not have the rooms to sell, have unreasonable cancellation or change penalties, or be completely non-refundable. Please be aware of and report any unauthorized solicitation to EDUCAUSE and we encourage you to file a complaint with the FTC*.
  • Housing for our spring conferences is location-specific and is booked through the conference hotel directly. Housing can only be accessed after registering for the event on the conference website.

Attendee Lists

We are dedicated to ensuring the privacy of your data.

As an event participant, to facilitate networking with colleagues, we include your name, title, and organization in the event registration list (your city, state, and country are also included in the event registration list for the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference), unless you opt out of sharing this information in the registration process. This list is only accessible by registered participants.

Also, some of our events are sponsored, and as such, we may share your name and postal mail address with corporate participants at EDUCAUSE conferences you have registered to attend, unless you have opted out of corporate participant communications in the registration process.

Due to popularity of the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference, the event is targeted each year by housing and registration poachers. Be sure to only work with the official show vendors, which include:

  • Housing and Registration: Maritz Global Events
  • Exhibitor Services: Freeman
Freeman is the general service contractor for all booth and audio/visual (A/V) services.

EDUCAUSE does not sell or condone the harvesting of our attendee lists for any purpose. If you or someone at your organization has already been contacted by any company other than the above and we haven’t already spoken, please take one of the following actions and do not respond to any other company claiming to represent EDUCAUSE:

  • Forward the email you received to [email protected] and file a fraud complaint with the FTC*.
  • Email us the company name and contact information if you were contacted by phone.
  • Add the individual's email address or email domain to your company's blocklist to prevent further email communication.

*To file a fraud complaint with the FTC, complete these simple steps:

  • Go to the new Federal Trade Commission fraud report site: ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
    Click on "Report Now"
  • For Question 1: "Is your report about any of these common problems?"
Select "An Impersonator" (top left answer)
  • For Question 2:  "Who were they pretending to be?"
    Select "Well-known or trusted business"
  • Click "Continue"
Add as much information as you have and submit.
