Overview

Join us for a deep dive into the world of microcredentialing! This Learning Lab defines the niche for higher education in this space, covering all of the basics, plus giving you the tools needed to develop and scale a microcredentialing program at your institution or system. Lab facilitators Cynthia Proctor and Laura Pedrick bring the experiences of the SUNY System and of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in creating microcredential programs, and they will share best practices, pitfalls to avoid, and the tools and resources necessary to support your microcredentialing initiatives.

Learning Outcomes:

NOTE: You will be asked to complete assignments in between the Learning Lab live sessions that support the learning outcomes stated below. You will receive feedback and constructive critique from facilitators.

  • Define high-quality, academically rigorous microcredentials
  • Understand the niche for higher education within a competitive national environment
  • Identify the components of a successful microcredential program, highlighting the work of SUNY, UWM, and other institutions nationally
  • Recognize creative design options that fit institutional mission, support student persistence, attract new students, provide for strong learning pathways, and meet state and industry needs
  • Understand strategies for scaling an institutional or system-wide microcredential program
