Learning Experience

The Learning Lab experience is supported by both asynchronous and synchronous components. Each part includes a set of resources, an asynchronous discussion, and an interactive live session, all of which culminate in the development of a project to apply learning to local and specific contexts in support of the learning objectives.

Part 1: Foundation – The Value of Change Management on Your Project

May 6, 2024, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET

For change to be successful, individuals must transition from the current state to the future state. As a project manager, it’s important you understand how people move through change, and its importance to delivering successful projects. You will learn:

  • The three states of change.
  • The technical and the people side of change.
  • How change occurs at the individual level.
  • A model for individual change – ADKAR.
  • The importance of “adoption and usage”.

Part 2: Method – Change Management Method and Practice on Your Project

May 9, 2024, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET

Just like project management, change management has its own phases, activities and milestones. As a project manager, understanding the Change Management framework is an important step in deploying it effectively on your projects. In this part, you will learn:

  • Prosci’s three phase approach for change management work on your project.
  • The various plans, activities and deliverables change management is responsible for.
  • How change management plans and activities drive individual ADKAR milestones.
  • The importance of assessing both technical and people side risk on your project.
  • How to assess and differentiate change impacts between various groups.

Part 3: Integration – Integrating Change Management with Project Management on Your Project

May 13, 2024, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET

Change Management is an enabling body of work that exists to support the broader project effort. For this to occur, change management should be integrated seamlessly with the rest of the project activities. In this part, you will learn:

  • How to sequence change management milestones with project milestones to achieve better results.
  • Specific points where project management knowledge areas should integrate change management.
  • When to begin change management work in the lifecycle of the project.
  • Change management tools and activities that are used most often in project management.

Part 4: Cost Benefit Analysis – Measuring the Benefit of Change Management on Your Project

May 16, 2024, 12:00–1:30 p.m. ET

Research indicates effective change management can improve the probability of success by up to 7 times. To understand the value of change management, it’s important to assess the cost and benefit of deploying it on your project and measure its effectiveness over the life of the project. In this part, you will learn:

  • The three key metrics used to measure change management effectiveness.
  • How to examine the costs and the benefits of applying change management to your project
  • How to assess project health
  • How to scale the budget and resources needed for change management to be most effective.

Lab Project/Assignments

The Lab Project:

As a participant, please come to the session with a real project in mind that will serve as a mental case study to use during session activities. A good selection is a project you are currently working on or have just recently finished. The project should involve a change that impacted one or more employee groups and one in which employee adoption was needed to achieve success. During the lab, your project will provide real-world context as you apply tools, answer questions, and/or participate in discussions.

During this lab, you will asynchronously complete three important change management assessments for your project. In addition, you will view and reflect on several short videos, eLearning modules and articles on change management and discuss your insights with the other participants.
