Overview

HyFlex courses meet students where they are by allowing them to choose their participation modality. Time constraints related to designing and delivering flexible course options are often the primary obstacle to taking on the challenge of offering these courses. In this Learning Lab, we will discuss strategies and best practices for efficiently designing flexible courses and will review the current state of the HyFlex literature. We will explore ways that generative AI can support the course design process, course facilitation, and student engagement and will look at how to review and improve the quality of your course.

Learning Outcomes:

NOTE: You will be asked to complete assignments in between the Learning Lab segments that support the learning outcomes stated below. You will receive feedback and constructive critique from course facilitators.

  • Discuss the current status of HyFlex in the literature and in your individual context.
  • Explore generative AI tools and engineer prompts that can be used to design and facilitate HyFlex courses in your setting.
  • Apply HyFlex best practices supported by generative AI to the design of your courses.
  • Develop a plan for making ongoing course improvements and iterations based on a variety of assessment measures.
