Overview

This four-session Learning Lab will immerse higher education academic, administrative, and IT professionals in the transformative role of AI in data management, with a focus on harnessing insights to drive student success, improve operational efficiency, and inform strategic decision-making. Through expert-led presentations, hands-on sessions, and a culminating project, participants will explore the practical applications of AI in key areas for higher education, including predictive analytics for student retention, optimized enrollment strategies, and personalized learning pathways. Short lectures by Dr. Bas van Gils will guide you by offering a vision of AI’s future in higher education, followed by showcases of AI tools and case studies tailored to educational needs, led by Becky Frieden. Attendees will leave equipped with actionable strategies and implementation plans for integrating AI-driven data insights within their institutions to create a holistic, student-centered experience. This Learning Lab is designed for higher education administrators, IT and IR professionals, faculty, and decision-makers ready to lead their institutions into a data-driven future.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate the Intersections Between AI and Data Management in Higher Education – Participants will be able to describe how AI technologies enhance core data management functions as defined by the DMBOK, including data governance, quality, and integration.
  • Develop an AI-Integrated Data (Management) Strategy Aligned with DMBOK Principles – Participants will design a strategic framework that connects institutional AI initiatives with established data management practices to support student success and operational excellence.
  • Evaluate AI Tools for Personalized Learning and Institutional Decision-Making – Participants will learn how to assess the capabilities of various AI solutions and determine their fit for specific educational use cases such as adaptive learning and strategic planning.
  • Design Implementation Plans for AI-Driven Data Initiatives – Participants will create an actionable implementation roadmap that includes stakeholder engagement, data governance considerations, and success metrics.
  • Demonstrate Leadership in Ethical and Responsible AI Use in Higher Education – Participants will explore ethical considerations and develop guidelines for responsible AI use, ensuring alignment with institutional values and data stewardship standards.
