Member QuickTalk | NSPM-33 Research Cybersecurity Guidelines

National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33) led to new requirements for research security at institutions conducting a large volume of federally funded research, including new requirements for research cybersecurity. The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) guidance formalizing those requirements did not clearly indicate what covered institutions should do regarding cybersecurity, however, creating confusion for institutions and federal funding agencies alike. EDUCAUSE members have been working with their research administration colleagues on a proposal to fill in the gaps with guidelines that emphasize institutional planning and discretion. This QuickTalk will focus on where the proposal process currently stands and the recommendations it will likely produce.
