Overcoming Challenges with a Digital Media Literacy Institute

Wednesday, March 23, 2016 | 9:00AM–9:50AM | Room 553
Session Type: Professional Development
The NMC Horizon Report: 2014 Higher Education Edition identifies low digital fluency of faculty as a significant challenge impeding educational technology adoption in higher education. To address and overcome this challenge, Bucks County Community College faculty librarians developed a professional development institute called the Digital Media Literacy Institute. The results of faculty participation include deeper understanding of the relationship between digital tools/resources and learning and an increase confidence to assign their students digital media literacy projects. We will demonstrate the institute structure and learning materials and discuss the impact of the institute on student learning.

Outcomes: Learn how to construct a professional development event * Identify and overcome challenges of supporting digital media literacy projects * Strategize how to support faculty in the implementation of digital media literacy assignments.
