Qualitative Assessment of Information Literacy Instruction

This poster will describe an approach to the qualitative assessment of in-person information literacy (IL) instruction sessions. It is based on three years' experience at the Colgate University Libraries. The poster looks at the following dimensions of this topic: (a) the theoretical support for taking a qualitative approach to IL assessment, (b) the "minute paper" technique used as an assessment instrument, (c) the use of the software tool MAXQDA for the analysis of assessment data, and (d) the manner in which this form of assessment can be used by individual instructors or at the program-level.
