Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Facilitated Discussion

The pressure to safeguard data that is used in or produced by research has dramatically increased in recent years. The trend continues and so more institutions need to stand up a compliance program to ensure they can successfully compete for grants and contracts. Security professionals are often the natural go-to for implementing such programs, resulting in the weight of the institution compliance being put on their shoulders. However, by the nature of their training and expertise, they focus on certain aspects of safeguarding research systems and processes. This discussion will explore how to get the correct stakeholders in your university engaged so that security controls do not increase the risk to the research mission of the university.
