Saving Money and Migrating to Moodle: Experiences from Faculty, Administration, and IT

Educational institutions facing budget challenges and escalating costs of commercial learning management systems like Blackboard may look to open-source options like Moodle for fiscal and pedagogical reasons. We will present perspectives on the successful migration processes implemented by two institutions, Clarkson University and Cape Cod Community College. Cape Cod made the transition within a restricted time frame, with a small budget, and with limited personnel to migrate courses and opted for external hosting. Clarkson preferred an in-house virtual server environment, with faculty moving their courses. These case studies will help other institutions make a similar transition.
